Biography

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Downs works together with Laura Reed, MSN serving as physician-administrative clinical dyad partners for the clinical practice at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview and UMPhysicians. Together they are responsible for care model development and integration, including service and outcomes, for all clinical care delivery across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Levi Downs is a gynecologic oncologist who has served the University of Minnesota and UMPhysicians as a respected clinician and researcher in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health since 1998. Dr. Downs’ research interests include HPV induced carcinogenesis, molecular therapeutics for cervical cancer and gynecologic oncology clinical trials.

. Downs received his medical degree in 1994 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed an obstetrics and gynecology internship and residency at the Magee-Women’s Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Minnesota.

He has served as the director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, the clinical care co-director of the Deborah E. Powell Center for Women’s Health and the co-leader of the Masonic Cancer Center’s Women’s Cancer Research Program. Dr. Downs has served on the UMPhysicians Board of Directors as well as numerous UMPhysicians, UMMC and AHC committees and task forces.
